Google, the Big Daddy of Search Engines

April 6, 2010

Since its inception in 1998, Google has grown by leaps and bounds, and now rules the roost of the internet industry with a market valuation of over $100 Billion.

Google started, as a search engine tool to assist internet users in finding the right information from the WWW, and has developed into the best internet-advertising platform for millions of website owners around the world who use Google’s Adwords program to advertise their websites on Google’s search result pages. In fact, Google has gone a step ahead in getting their advertisers more bang for their buck by placing their ads on not only the Google search result pages, but also on scores of other websites, which are similar or associated in content.

With this unique program aptly called Adsense, Google in return has shared its advertising revenue with all those website owners who have agreed to display ads of other websites on their web pages.

This business model has helped Google multiply its advertising revenue manifold as more and more advertisers choose Google for its wider reach than other search engines like MSN and Yahoo and because of the Adsense program, Google’s reach gets ever wider with more and more websites signing up to display ads on their websites.

Google’s business model has even started a whole new industry of new and inventive ways to make money on Google. People are developing websites with the primary objective to achieve high rankings in Google’s searches so that their website figures on top of the search page, which will help their websites, get more and more traffic for no cost at all and then divert that traffic to other websites on which they earn revenue.

Many people use the Adwords program for a system known as affiliate marketing, where people use their websites to sell other peoples’ products. Those who have been successful have written books, made DVDs of their methodology for other people to buy and benefit from. Then there are other people who design websites with the sole purpose of attracting Adsense revenue for their businesses.

For a small business owner, Google’s programs are a godsend as they greatly help in maximizing their turnover by the highly targeted advertising that Google offers.

The question of how long Google will stay in front is unsure at the moment since its closest competitors MSN and Yahoo have teamed up to give Google a run for its money in the internet-advertising arena. However, since Google has a head start, it will be easier for it to innovate and develop more programs that will keep its market share intact.
