Tweak your web page to improve your Adsense revenue

April 2, 2010

Google’s Adsense program is perhaps the best way to earn revenue for webmasters. The potential is almost limitless but the earnings depend on the amount of traffic that the site actually generates. There are many ways to attract web traffic to a website. The most important one is to ensure that the website’s content is high quality, relevant and constantly updated. Once the quality and relevance of the content is ensured, then other techniques can be employed to attract more traffic to a website.

One such technique is to tweak the website for search engines so that the content is found much faster. In other words, fine-tune the website for ‘Search Engine Optimization’ or SEO.

There are many ways to make your website SEO friendly and improve on your website’s Adsense revenue. However, making your website SEO friendly can only ensure that your website gets a good listing on the search results page. In order to ensure that the users click on the link to your website, you may have to take additional measures, most of which can be developed and deployed if you just track the traffic movement to your site and other related sites. Once you start monitoring the web traffic, you will find why traffic is going to a certain website more than others.

One reason as to why search engine users do not click on your website’s link, despite getting a better listing on the search results page, could be that the keywords which the users enter in the search box do not show up in the link to your website. Since the links are highlighted, search engine users read these as the results rather than the website name.

The second thing that will attract a search engine user to click on the link to a particular website is the description of the webpage just under the highlighted link. If the description does not offer them the solution that they are looking for, then they start looking at other links provided on the page. The description of the website is usually taken from the web page title or the first paragraph, so it is strongly advised to pay extra attention to the content within these particular areas of your site to get more hits.

The third common factor for getting the search engine user to click on your link is your website’s domain name. Search engine users are inclined to click on links where the domain name essentially relates to their query rather than that of a generic website, which may have just a little information on the topic that they are looking for.

Overall, if you are looking to attract more people to your website, then you should focus on the following three areas:
1. Ensure there are relevant key words in your page title, which will show up within SERP’s as highlighted text.
2. Have attractive content in your page title and the first paragraph of the home page’s content, as it will show up as the description on the search results page.
3. Use domain names that are relevant to your website’s topic to make the user believe that your website will have what they are looking for.

With these three areas covered, you will be able to generate even more traffic to your site as well as increase your income at the same time.
