How to Create a Perfect Smile with Photoshop – Photoshop Basic Lessons
March 23, 2010
Nothing can spoil a really good picture faster than a smile that is full of crooked teeth, or a smile that clearly shows every gap between your teeth. But, there isn’t any need to destroy the photo simply because you are ashamed of your smile. With the help of some simple Photoshop functions, you can correct your teeth and have a smile that you’ll be proud to show off.
To get started, find the photo that shows your teeth and either scan it into your computer or open the file; use the highest possible resolution.
Correcting Gaped Teeth:
Step 1
Use Photoshop’s zoom feature and enlarge your mouth as much as you can. You want your smile to be large enough so that you can easily work with your teeth, but you don’t want to get it so large that the details are fuzzy.
Step 2
Use the Magnetic Lasso tool to surround one half of your bridge. Once you have surrounded your teeth with the lasso, slowly draw it tight, this will pull the teeth together. You will want to do the left side of your bridge first, and then the right side.
Step 3
At this point there won’t be any gaps in your smile, but your bridge probably looks too small for your face. To correct this problem you will need to use the Free Transform Tool. Very carefully use this tool to slowly stretch the teeth on the right side of your bridge. When you are happy that your teeth look evenly spaced and are proportionate to your face, you can repeat the process on the left side. When you are finished, you will have a smile you can be proud of.
Correcting Crooked Teeth
Step 1
Correcting crooked teeth means that you are going to have to correct one tooth at a time. The Free Transform tool will let your select an individual tooth.
After opening the Free Transform tool, place your cursor on the edge of one tooth. Depress your mouse’s left button until your cursor turns into a curved arrow. When this happens, you will be able to rotate the crooked tooth until it is perfectly aligned with its partner. If straightening the tooth creates a small gap, you can correct this by expanding it.
Step 2
The Erase to Background tool allows you to smooth your freshly straightened teeth, giving you a natural looking smile. This tool lets you paint over stray pixels, so that your photo doesn’t look like it’s been edited.
Step 3
Once you are happy with your smile, use the merge down tool and combine the layers. Make sure you save your changes.
