The whole point of keeping a blog is to help drive additional web traffic to your website. The extra web traffic usually equals an increase in sales and clicks on your Google AdSense links.

Blogs are great advertising tools, and best of all, they are free to keep and maintain. It is now possible for your blog to get an RSS feed which makes it even easier for your blog readers to receive alters each time you update your blog.

Creating Your Blog

The first thing you have to do is set up your blog. While you are creating your blog, you should start to think about the types of things you are going to discuss on it. Knowing what you want to talk about will make it easier to choose a blog name as well as an appropriately themed template. Blogger.com and LiveJournal.com are two excellent sites which let you have a blog for free.

Now that you blog is set up, you need to give it some content. In other words, you have to start writing some entries. While most people opt to write their own posts, if you don’t like to write, you can use the blog as a means to post quotes you have found from sites of interest. One of the best ways to make posting to your blog easier, is to download the Google Toolbar, this can be done at no extra cost. The tool bar makes it possible to highlight the interesting section of text you found, and post it directly to your blog.

Most of the experts recommend that you should post to your blog at least one or two times a day. Everyone agrees that you can’t post too many times.

Join AdSense

When you are setting up your blog on blogger.com you will be extended with an invitation to join Google’s AdSense; you should take this opportunity to join. Each time one of your readers clicks on one of the AdSense links while they are reading your blog, a small amount of money will be added to your account. When you have accumulated enough earnings, Google will send you a check.

The one downside to AdSense is that Google determines what ads will be placed on your blog. They try to determine which advertisements will be a good fit, and this is all based on the content of your blog.

The really great thing about having a blog is that it provides you with a means to make some extra money and it won’t cost you a penny. In addition to being able to pad you income, you will also have a great time posting your blog entries and reading the comments from your subscribers.
