Common Mistakes Web Designers Make and Which Should be Avoided

The most important thing to any business today is to be successful online and one thing that can make or break your business is a web design. Web designing has to be right for it to create a positive perception and perspective of your business to your target market. Your website, being the first order of contact between you and your potential client, should uniquely and succinctly reflect what your business is all about, its products, services, and its core values.
For the risk of over simplifying, a good website should feature an innovative and interactive design so that it can make the site inviting and encouraging to the visitors to explore beyond the home page. The programming and functionality of the site should utilize only acceptable, compliant coding and give an alternative programming so that it can be viewable from whatever browser at any screen resolution.
The following are some of the common pitfalls and mistakes that people make in web designing, and which should be avoided under all costs to ensure you create a lasting impact on your visitors.
- Untidy layout and a glaring design – Some websites have very unbalanced layouts and whose designs have been overloaded. Many a times, such designs don’t match the content of the page thus making the design appear misplaced and out of place. Ensure your pages have an appealing appearance and the content highlights only the main facts. Always adjust design screen shots in various resolutions before uploading the most appropriate one.
- Including a horizontal scrolling provision – this scroll makes it very hard to digitize site content and will most often mean that visitors will get impatient and leave before content is displayed.
- Unsightly images – you should never allow your visitors to view badly cropped images and sometimes even graphics that are missing. It is important to optimize all images using the right width and height while the files should be in the best readable format i.e. gif when using artwork images and Jpeg for photographs.
Irrelevant content text – another common mistake that web designers make is to fill pages with long irrelevant text that doesn’t make any sense and which is not informative. Keep in mind that readers don’t have the time to read through many lines to get the information they are looking for. Therefore, you should ensure that your text remains relevant, informative, and to the point.
