Reason why Web Designing is a Costly Affair
January 31, 2010
Arguably the only common thing among entrepreneurs who are just getting started on a business is cash flow. More often than not, they will agree that there never is enough money to pay for all things that need to be paid for. No wonder many, if not all, entrepreneurs will always try and cost cut by doing everything on their own, from making the product, to marketing it and so forth. It is at such a point that a businessman tries also to create his own website with the hope that it will be a killer website as creating websites today has proven to be quite a costly affair.
For starters, a home-made website so to speak will serve the purpose well, at least making the business known to the public but as time goes on and your business grows, you will soon discover that the website does not give such a perfect image of what you want. Alternatively, your product and/or service range will expand or better still, you might want to alter the main focus of the business, hence realize that the website doesn’t give the right and relevant information any longer.
At such a point in time, you might need to seek the services of a professional web designer rather than do it yourself again so that you can give your site a professional makeover, or touch, so to speak. Here are a few reasons why a web designer will charge you ‘more’ to design your website, but which you have to do anyway.
- First and foremost, one of the reasons why a professional will charge you more is because for a website to work well and feature in all the browsers available today, it has to be search engine optimized, it has to have a good design and the information has to be presented in a professional, eye-catching, and user-friendly manner, something that takes a lot of time, and requires proficiency thus the high cost
- The second reason you get charged more by a web design company is that for the company to be able to stay in business and be able to pay its staff well. Note that the premium you pay is not only for designing but for support, advice, and hopefully a long-term working relationship.
You should therefore be wary of a cheap quote because there must be a reason behind it. Maybe you can comfort yourself that the designer is desperate for a contract thus the under-quote but keep in mind that good designers don’t go out looking for work; work comes looking for them literally. This is not to say however that you should take the most expensive quote that comes your way– work within your means and within your budget.
This you can do by requesting for several quotes and then doing a comparison of the mid-range quotes to be able to make a wise selection based on the company or the designer’s reviews or portfolio. With a growing and expanding business, you have to ensure that your site expands with it, and the only sure way is to build and nurture a long term relationship with a professional and reputable web designer or web design company.
