Tips on How You can Make Money from Publishing Content on the Internet

November 28, 2008

The internet is all about great content. Great content is what people look for and that’s what they read or view. In fact, a huge chunk of money made on the internet can be directly or indirectly attributed to web content. If you have content that people want to read, then the possibilities of making money from it is almost limitless.

There are two general ways by which you can earn money from online content. First is by becoming a content provider and the other is becoming a publisher.

Earning Money as a Content Writer

As a content writer, it is your job to write web content for your clients. There are various assignments in this field, depending on what your clients require. However, expect a good number of them to be health-related topics and blogging since these are very profitable niches.

Pricing for your content can be quite tricky if you don’t know how to position yourself and to choose your target market. If you can’t earn a living wage from writing penny-per-word articles then you should look for clients in other markets instead. The quality of your work should be the basis of your pricing, not the price.

One way to earn yourself a healthy income from content writing is by specializing on a particular field. Keep in mind that specialists always command higher rates than generalists. So as you go along your writing career, gradually focus on a certain field until you build up a good portfolio that will showcase your field of expertise.

Publishing Content to Earn Money

Although you can earn good income from content writing alone, you might also want to consider publishing content if you want to make even more money.

If you want to be a publisher, you should be prepared to invest some of your money to outsource some of your initial work. You can hire other writers to write your content so that you can focus on the business side of things. Once the work is done, you have several options of monetizing the content you have.

First is that you set up your own website, publish the content there and monetize it with advertisements. Sites like these are often called ‘Made for Adsense’ sites, in reference to the Google ads often placed on these sites.

Another option you can explore is called ‘website flipping’. Flipping is where you put content on a website you created, optimize it, making sure it has good search engine rankings, etc. After then, you could sell it to interested parties.

Finally, you can resell your content as Private Label Rights articles or PLR for short. The good thing about PLR is that you can sell them to different buyers. You then give buyers the right to rewrite content as they see fit. In this arrangement, you can multiply your income several times instead of making money only from selling your content once. And if you don’t set the limit to the number of buyers, you can earn passive income from selling these articles alone.
